Primary Function of Organizational Unit

The Cultural Center provides a safe and supportive environment for students of all identities and cultural backgrounds.
It also provides campus-wide cultural programming which creates opportunities for exploration, learning and growth.

Primary Purpose of Position

The Director of the Cultural Center will create and sustain a new vision for the Cultural Center by designing and implementing educational programming around self- awareness, intercultural understanding, and dialogue concerning diversity and inclusion that serves the primary constituencies as well as the larger campus community. This person will also lead the administrative functions of the Cultural Center, including goal setting, collaborations, budgetary oversight, staff supervision, and center operations. Finally, they will support and advocate for underrepresented students

• Provide leadership for and effective operation of the Cultural Center, including setting vision, creating processes, assessing programs, supervising up to 3 staff, and promoting programs and events.
• Prepare and manage department budgets, allocating resources in accordance with strategic and operational objectives.
• Evaluate program performance with an emphasis on continuous improvement.
• Serve on University committees representing the Cultural Center and Student Affairs

• Foster an inclusive campus community, student engagement, student development, and seamless student learning experiences by creating and promoting opportunities for dialogue toward an understanding of diversity and inclusion.
• Assess student needs and design programs, services and partnerships to address those needs.
• Define and assess key student learning outcomes.
• Develop and implement programs and initiatives to further the development of a culturally engaged campus community.
• Design and implement programs and events that engage communities of difference in ways that enhance student learning and advance multicultural and intercultural understanding and competence
• Develop and sustains campus-wide programs that raise awareness and provide education around social justice, institutional racism, power and privilege, oppression, and cultural and ethnic identity.

• Serve as an advisor to various student organizations
• Create programs which assist under-represented students with the transition into Georgia College

Minimum Requirements

Proposed Minimum Experience/Education

Master’s degree and 2 years work experience in a college or university setting.
Experience working directly with under-represented student populations
Broad knowledge of the field of higher education and student affairs
Willingness to work evening and weekend hours as required

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education

Master’s degree in education, student personnel, counseling or a related field.
At least 3 years full-time programming and administrative experience running a student affairs program area at the Assistant Director level or higher.
Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion
Superb communication skills (oral and written), interpersonal skills, leadership/team-building skills, facilitation skills, and organizational skills
